UFA Update: August 26, 2013

As the busy summer salmon season draws to a close, we continue to watch the MSC-Walmart issue closely. As many of you are aware, Walmart has announced a sweeping decision to only source MSC certified seafood in all of their stores. Although Walmart is rumored to have backed down and agreed to source Alaska salmon, all other sustainably managed species in Alaska that have declined to renew their MSC certification are still affected by this decision.

The United Fishermen of Alaska (UFA), the largest statewide commercial fishing industry trade association, representing 36 member organizations, announces the election of Mr. Jerry McCune of Cordova District Fishermen United as President. President McCune will be joined by Mr. Paul A. Shadura II of Kenai Peninsula Fishermen's Association as Vice President, and Ms. Lindsey Bloom of Alaska Independent Fishermen’s Marketing Association, who will serve as the new Fish Farm & Environmental Committee

Press Release: UFA At-Large board member Kevin Adams elected as ASMI Chair (June 3, 2013)

The United Fishermen of Alaska (UFA), the largest statewide commercial fishing industry trade association representing 36 member organizations, is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Kevin Adams as Chairman of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) Board of Directors. This is the first time a commercial fisherman has held this position in over a decade.
